Focus Groups, Walk Audits, and Parades!

Last Month Rewind

We’ve had a busy month! To recap, we:

  • Attended Caltrans’ PCH Public Workshop and provided public comments in support of the cheaper Alternative 1 (class IV bike lanes)
  • Hosted a happy hour with Abundant Housing Los Angeles at Altar Society
  • Led a call to action to provide public comment at the Mobility Ports & Infrastructure Meeting on the fate of the Orange Ave Bike Lanes in California Heights
  • Attended a Zaferia Neighborhood Cleanup near Orizaba Park
  • And a bunch of us made the trek out to Melrose for the last CicLAvia of the year!

If you want to get more involved in our direct actions, make sure to keep an eye on the calendar at carlitelb.org/calendar and follow us on Instagram.

Now, onto the upcoming events!

LBT STAR II Focus Group (Virtual)

Tues Dec 2, 12-1:30 PM

We’ve been invited by Long Beach Transit to participate in a focus group for the upcoming STAR II long term transit plan. Join us virtually and be part of the conversation. Our goal is to provide LBT a “full house” of advocates so we can push some of our transit priorities, including:

  • Regional Buses
  • Speeding up loading/unloading times
  • New fare policies
  • Frequency improvements
  • Stop removal (where stops are <1000 ft away from each other)

Learn more about STAR 2 here: Long Beach Transit STAR II

PCH Walk Audit with SCAG (in-person)

Thu Dec 4, 9-10:30 AM

SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments) is running a walk audit of PCH on the west side—meeting at the Winchell’s Donut House, 1695 W Pacific Coast Hwy.

Join to share your feedback and recommendations for improving walking and biking conditions in the area. Participants will walk along the designated route to help identify opportunities for enhancements such as improved lighting, additional seating, and overall safety upgrades. If you are unable to join at this time, feel free to leave a comment here: https://bit.ly/WSA_LongBeachOnline

LB Bike Co-op BBQ

Sat Dec 6, 3 PM

A whole bunch of bike co-op friends will be descending down to our very own Long Beach Bike Co-op next weekend to celebrate their grand opening and welcome them into the fold of LA-area bike co-ops. Stop by and enjoy the vibes!

Christmas Parades!

Belmont Shore & Daisy Lane

Car-Lite Long Beach will be participating in two parades this year! If you’ve ever wanted to march in one of Long Beach’s holiday parades, this is your opportunity!

The first parade is the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade set for Sat Dec 6 from about 6-9 PM. We are marching as part of Moonlight Mash Long Beach’s group, and you are invited to bring your bike (or scooter) and ride in the parade. To sign up for this event, you must become a Moonlight Mash supporter ($10/year) and fill out their application: Moonlight Mash Membership and Belmont Parade

The second parade is the Daisy Lane Parade set for Sat Dec 13 at 5 PM. We will be marching along with Clean Streets United, a coalition of neighborhood street cleaning groups, and we’ll be bringing Clean Mary with us! It’s free to participate in this event, but you need to fill out the waiver. Download the waiver here. Submit them to Cascia Lutz (lutzgo48 [at] gmail.com) as soon as possible!
